Why you should visit Ocho Rios

Apart from a booming north coastal tourist town, the town Ocho Rios holds on to a large amount of Jamaica's history.  Before the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1494, Ocho Ríos hosts various beaches which accommodated the Tahino Indians in order for them to have easy access to the wide open Caribbean sea.  These small beach areas combined together, made up the small fishing village that was maintained even until long after the arrival of the British in 1655.  Ocho Rios as the name suggests, is a Spanish term which means "Eight Rivers".

This town is located in the parish of Saint Ann on the north coast of Jamaica.  Many believe that Christopher Columbus first set foot on the land in Ocho Rios.  It is also said and strongly maintained that it is Discovery Bay that the former World explorer first landed in Jamaica.  However, the first landing on Jamaica by Christopher Columbus was actually in river mouth of Rio Bueno, the river that borders the parishes of Saint Ann and Trelawney.  Although he landed in many spots along the Jamaican coast, it was very long after his arrival that he actually got to the point of his eastward travelling.

At that point, he had counted eight rivers and so, the village inherited the name, Ocho Rios.  From your place of accommodation in any of Jamaica's resort areas such as Kingston, Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio or any cruise ship port in Jamaica, you can take a tour with us and learn more from one of our knowledgeable tour guides as they share their wealth of information with you.  If you are doing this tour from Kingston, this tour will take you north of Kingston through the lower and western regions of the Blue Mountains to the north coast.

After entering the north coast, you will be going through several towns, before you arrive  in Ocho Rios.  If you are travelling from Falmouth, Montego Bay, Negril or Port Antonio, you will be enthused with the brilliant views of magnificent coastline and local communities which you will be passing through.  On arrival in Ocho, you will be driven first to the Dunns River Falls attraction, which is located west of the town of Ocho Rios.
